I finally went and saw Kevin Smith’s latest flick (Jersey Girl) last night and despite all of the critical musings, I must say that I actually liked it. It certainly wasn’t the kind of movie that you would expect from Mr. Smith, and I didn’t think that that was necessarily such a bad thing…it had a new, emotional quality that we really haven’t seen from him since Chasing Amy…without all of the dick and fart jokes, of course! Nonetheless, it was one of those films that you couldn’t help but get a little teary-eyed for at least one scene of, but it also featured Liv Tyler in a very prominent role and as we all know, Liv Tyler is simply gorgeous, so that more than made up for it…
In other news, week #1 of the great diet battle has passed and I’m proud to report that .8 pounds have been successfully terminated from my flabby carcass! I know, it’s a slow start, but honestly it’s been bouncing between 210 and 215 all week, so I think my body’s still just getting used to the new lifestyle at this point. The food isn’t as bad as it started out to be because, well, although pizza and chocolate cake are pretty much out of the question, there’s still something to be said for an actual cooked meal with meat and vegetables and so forth! The exercise, on the other hand, is another story entirely, but with $50 at stake, I’ll just have to push myself a little harder to spend 10 or 15 minutes every morning doing sit-ups – I may still lose, but I’m not going down without a fight!
Just some advice, from one who’s been (is) there: I found that not drinking soda anymore helped a LOT. It’s like drinking extra calories and sugar that just make you more thirsty. And it sucks the calcium out of your body. So yeah. Just thought I’d try and help. 🙂 And good job, btw.
Damn it, now I’m hungry…
Thanks!
That’s a good point – I’ve been drinking mostly water for about a week now, but it was sure hard getting into the groove, as my bloodstream was something like 45% pure Dr. Pepper before this whole ordeal! It still seems like a lot, but I’m trying to drink 3 20-ounce bottles a day to keep around that 8 glasses deal. I still have the occasional soda if I eat out or something, but I’m certainly not going through a couple of 12-packs a week like I used to!
On a side note, it’s expensive being on a diet! I just dropped over a hundred bucks on a week’s worth of groceries!!! It’d be cheaper just to stay fat…
