It’s kind of been a long and crazy week, and I really can’t wait until the weekend gets here. This was my first full week back after vacation and everything pretty much just seems to be dragging. Projects that should take one night seem to be getting drawn out over two or three, and all I want at this point is a nice nap with a warm body next to me. Granted, I could be enjoying exactly that right now and instead, here I am blogging, but such is life, I suppose. So where did we leave off?
Scott Meets TiVO – Still Not Entirely Sold
So the box seems cool, even though I had to shell out $35 to Circuit City for an HDMI-to-DVI converter because the new box has HDMI and my old one didn’t, and the extra movie channels are kinda nice, especially because somehow the girl at working the counter hooked me up with a promotion that basically kept my cable bill exactly the same even after adding another $25 worth of services, but ultimately, I’m just not completely digging the full concept of TiVO yet…at least not enough to get me to stop downloading my shows, too, that is (and that’s really kind of what I was going for, honestly). I’ve had more than a couple of shows simply cut off the last minute or whatever – Sara tells me this is because they’re running over their scheduled time – but that’s no excuse to me! When I watch The Apprentice, I want to see the cab ride home after the board room, too – not just “You’re fired!” … click! Nonetheless, I love the navigation and the ease of use, but there’s got to be something else that can be done about the record times…Scoring Some Sweet Loot
The big highlight of last weekend, mind you, was my companies “garage sale” where they basically took anything and everything that they didn’t want to actually pay to move and put it all up for donation, with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. I went there with very low expectations, hoping only to find a new box for my server pc, and let’s just say I left pretty happy about the find…seeing as we ended up needing to make two car trips to haul all of our loot back to casa de Scott! Finally tally — 4 PCs (all Pentium 3s, but still good for this and that stuff), 3 monitors (two flat screens, one of which is the beautiful 21″ beast that I’m staring at right now!), 2 desk chairs, a desk for Sara, a small table to further clutter my office, a Dell laptop shell that needs a few parts to be fixed (at least a new hard drive), and a crapload of other assorted cables, cards, and whatnot. The strangest find of all, in my opinion, was a see-thru LCD flat panel to be used with an overhead projector for presentations and such. A little out of date in this day and age, but I couldn’t argue the price, so it got thrown on the stack and now it’s around here somewhere! If anything, maybe Sara can use it in her class next year or something. Overall, a very sweet day! Maybe I’ll post pictures later, if I can find the cable to my camera, that is…Mystery Science Theater!!!
“For you folks at home, this might be a good time to go get a sandwich…”
I’ve always wanted to start buying the actual series on DVD, but the prices were so God awful expensive that I could never bring myself to do it. And then I found them on Amazon.com last week for $25 a pop, so needless to say, a couple seasons were quickly sent speeding my way! Well, they arrived tonight and if there was ever a test to truly see just how much Sara likes me, it will be whether or not she still wants to stick around after sitting through fourteen consecutive hours of MST3K! Ok, so I probably won’t force her to watch them all in one lump, but this is some quality humor here – it must be shared with the masses!Relaxation, Etc, Etc…
Sara and I have been spending a lot of time down at the pool lately, it seems, which works out well because it’s a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Every now and then, the hot tub isn’t even scalding or anything, so add in a few drinks and you’ve got a couple of truly happy people! Of course, the girl pretty much makes me happy regardless of where we are or what we’re doing … I think it’s just nice to have someone around to enjoy all of the things that I used to never actually take the time to do when I was single. I’ve been trying to take life a little slower since I met her and so far it’s working out good. As Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”Weekend Entertainment
Not much planned for this weekend, which is good after such a busy week. I figure there’s plenty of stuff around the house to keep us busy, but we were thinking about going to see a movie Saturday night or something to break it up. Any suggestions? The Da Vinci Code looks interesting, but neither of us have read the book and are wondering if it’ll be as good without having done so. I’m also curious to see Flight 93 or whatever the hell it is, even though I don’t necessarily think it’s right to make a movie about it, either. Ice Age 2 has moved on in IMAX form, so that’s out. Hmmm…And Last, But Certainly Not Least…
http://www.l7comix.com/comic.php?id=60One of my favorite strips in a while! Simple colors and design, but I just absolutely love the joke. If it does get any better than this, I don’t want to know about it…
