So Sara and I finally broke down and went to see Iron Man last night, and it was awesome.
I won’t go so far as to say that it’s the best superhero movie of all time, but it’s certainly still managed to tie with the Spider-Man series and that’s still a mighty feat for any flick because I think that every single episode of that trilogy was just superbly done. Kind of how Spider-Man 3 established an early domination of the summer blockbuster season last year, I can’t imagine any movies this summer being pulled off this well … and don’t get me wrong, it would be great if some of them did! The special effects were spot on, with a high note being the two scenes where Tony Stark goes to “test out” his upgraded suit, first alone and then in a more intense setting! I didn’t really know much about the plot or the original story behind Iron Man, so that was all new to me, too, and that had so many twists and turns that it was like I felt the pain right along with Tony as he got smacked down! The characters all seemed to be cast spot-on – no arguments there – and even though as I mentioned, I really know nothing about the Iron Man universe, per se, that final geek quip at the end for anybody who stayed past the credits was certainly intriguing for me … and I barely even got the reference!
Ultimately, it was good enough that we’ve both said that we wouldn’t mind seeing it again if it’s still on in a few weeks when we can find the time again, assuming that there’s nothing else playing yet, so it made for a pretty decent night out. As soon as I finish this post, we’re heading out the door to go checkout the new Toy Story attraction over at Disney, so I’ll try to post photos and whatnot sometime later on in the weekend…
