Watching the Growth of Walmart Across America

Whether you like the company or not, this is still kinda interesting…

I was particularly surprised that even when it finishes in 2007, the vast concentration of stores is still east of the Mississippi River. I know there’s a lot of desert and mountain ranges through there, but there are mountains in the east, too, and that certainly didn’t stop old Sam Walton!

I’d be very curious to see an updated one of these that shows the entire planet.

Suburban Sunset

I caught this view just as I was getting home the other night and literally ran to find the camera before the sun disappeared completely. Probably would’ve been nicer without all of the SUVs and lamp posts, but what can you do?

SPAM A Lot

I was a bit irritated when spammers started using news headlines and whatnot as their subject lines in an attempt to lure you into opening their e-mails, and lately it’s gotten even worse with a slew of just off-the-wall, hopefully they’re made up headlines (i.e. Clinton Named to Top Post by Obama, Microsoft Takes Over Yahoo Inc, etc…), but I’ve got to say that this one made me laugh…

School Board Adopts Gay-Ass Uniform Policy

You just can’t make this stuff up.

blogging by numbers

One
The whopping number of RSVPs (out of that previously mentioned 34) that we received today. Much weeping occurred…

2461
The number of calories that I burned by exercising over the last week, up from 1335 the week prior.

Dog
The creature I’m trying to convince Sara that we should obtain before trying our luck with an actual human, in hopes of putting the whole baby thing off until my sanity permits it.

$19 (or 36.5%)
The increase in single-day ticket prices at Walt Disney World since I first moved to Florida in 2003 (five years ago), according to this very interesting chart of ticket prices dating back to opening day in 1971, compiled by the fine folks over at AllEars.Net.

Anxiously Awaiting RSVPs

Well, tomorrow’s the big day! Granted, I do feel just a bit of pity for our mailman, as he will certainly have his work cut out for him tomorrow, what with delivering all 34 of our remaining RSVPs on the very same day. You’ve got to admire people that wait until the very last minute to send back their RSVPs, but still manage to make the deadline so that you don’t have to spend time that you don’t have calling everybody and their brother to see if they’re actually coming to your wedding or not.

Whew!

Busy, busy day – I guess I’d better go to sleep early, what with all of the RSVPs that we’ll be counting tomorrow afternoon. :O

This is sad…

‘Last Lecture’ Professor, Randy Pausch, Dies at 47

I just can’t say enough nice things about this guy and it’s really sad to see that his cancer finally got the best of him, but something tells me that he still enjoyed it all right up until the very end. You definitely owe it to yourself to go buy his book and read it from cover to cover tomorrow, or at the very least check out his lecture on YouTube.

We can all learn a thing or two from Randy…

random pic from the 4th of July…

We didn’t end up getting any even remotely decent fireworks pics from the 4th, as we were pretty far away from all of the action, but a few nice photos still came out of the sky as the sun went down. The body of water would be Hillsborough Bay (Tampa Bay is the area between Tampa & St. Petersburg, so this is the area between South Tampa and the rest of Florida), which means that the sunset was actually happening behind us, making for some pretty neat colors in the clouds in front of us as they caught the reflections of the actual sunset itself.

“Comic”-con???

Mind you, I’ve never been, but why did I just see an ad on NBC to check out their coverage of Comic-Con featuring Heroes and The Office and Chuck? Maybe Heroes, but how do Chuck or The Office have anything to do with comics???
