our simple Christmas (Eve) feast

…and of course, it just isn’t Christmas without an armada of cookies. Yes, those are Mickey Mouse gingerbread cookies dipped in chocolate, by the way…

So as you can tell, our first Christmas in our new house went quite well, despite being sick up until the last minute, doing all of our shopping only hours before every store in town was set to close on Christmas Eve, and pinching pennies as to try to pull off a wedding of some sort next year! We actually celebrated the holiday itself on Christmas Eve, as Sara got scheduled to work all day on Christmas, but we still had a fun evening of Buzz! (our latest addiction for the PS2, in the form of a multi-player trivia game show), feasting on cheese & crackers, shrimp, and plenty of wine, and then winding down with a double feature of National Treasure and The Simpsons Movie. All in all a good time, I must say. Mind you, we still have gifts to send out for both sides of the family, several of which haven’t even been purchased yet, but that’s kinda par for the course in my family!

Next year, though, I’m vowing for something different. No more gift purchasing the day before Christmas, or baking until 6am, or even decorating AFTER December 1st – in 2008 I want to try, just once, to pull off Christmas on-time. That means gifts mailed to both Michigan and New York so that they’ll actually arrive before Christmas, baking done in time to go along with said packages, and possibly even Christmas cards sent out again … it’ll be our first Christmas as a married couple, so we’re pretty much obligated to do something extra cool, right?! I love Christmastime, but I always feel like I’m missing out on something or other simply because I procrastinate so much – next year I want to allow plenty of time to enjoy the whole kit and caboodle.

Something tells me I’d better start making my list and checking it twice now…
