I think I’ve been on a space kick since the Galactica finale, but I found this site this evening and I just wish I’d found it sooner because I simply don’t have enough time to go through the archives tonight!

There are a lot of just really cool photos on here, but I think so far I got the biggest kick out of this one – it’s a shot that the Spirit rover took from Mars back in 2004, and while at a first glimpse it may not seem like anything out of the ordinary, except for this one thing – it was taken from Mars roughly 56 million kilometers away!!!. That’s almost 35 million miles … or 1,400 trips around the equator of Earth … or almost 75 trips to the moon and back. Not the kind of trip you want to be taking with today’s gas prices…

It makes you feel pretty small, but at the same time how cool is it that we’ve got actual pictures of what it looks like on the surface of another planet?! Thankfully they’ve got an RSS feed, so this one is definitely going in the circulation for regular reading! I guess I’d kind of forgotten that this kind of stuff is out there and just how neat it is.

Galactica Finale, thoughts about the

So, to end on a slightly happier note than horny teenage escapades, The Battlestar Galactica finale!

First of all, I’ve read a lot of feedback from people since the finale aired and there’s definitely a fair amount of people who both loved it and hated it, and ultimately I think I fall into the category of those who enjoyed it, although I will admit that it took me a while after to actually absorb what had happened to get to that point. Yeah, I can certainly see where there would be some contention for those true sci-fi fans who were hoping for a little more than “It’s all part of God’s plan…” for the biggest answers, but frankly, the way season 4 has been going so far and really even what’s always driven the colonists to Earth from the get go, I’m not sure that this should come as such a big surprise.

…and in my opinion, even not being a religious man myself, I think the final ending worked out just fine.

rebate fun, part 37!

Getting ready to put a new rebate in the mail – $10 for my new video card. Latest communique from Corsair was that they would print a new check with the correct name and expedite it, but that was a week ago and nothing yet. So that particular rebate is now going on 15 weeks … for $25. Kinda makes you wonder if it’s worth the hassle, but then again, if I just give up / forget / cast it aside, that’s really what they want me to do because then it’s just free money for them.

Anyways, Gigabyte’s paperwork is boasting an impressive 3 weeks for their rebate, possibly because I entered some stuff online before printing the forms to mail in. Should be interesting to see if I get that one before I hear back from Corsair again…
