This game is so cool!
I have a very distinct memory of Easter when I was growing up.
I don’t recall the exact year, but I had gotten Final Fantasy 2 for the Super Nintendo in my Easter basket. I pretty much always got a game in my basket ever since Nintendo wandered into our house, but this was a big year because it was the first RPG that I really got hooked into. I mean, I had played the original Final Fantasy, along with probably Dragon Warrior or something, but for some reason it’s FF2 (and then later FF3 when it was released) that are still among my top favorites of all time. I think for FF2, we had rented it a couple of times, so I knew where to go and what to do up until a certain point … needless to say, I rushed as fast as I could to get caught up, then sat back and began exploring the story anew!
The single memory that stands out was getting called (repeatedly) to come have Easter dinner because the table was all ready and my Aunt & Uncle and their family were waiting, all the while I was fighting my way up Mt. Ordeals to help Cecil the Dark Knight become a Paladin. Could dinner have possibly come at any worse of a time?!
So fast forward a couple of decades and today seemed as good as any for a bit of nostalgia…

I just realized that I still hadn’t posted these, so I’m just going to throw them up real quick and be done with them.
Now because we’re already three months in … does that mean that I only have to do three quarters of these???
Awwww shucks.
Anyways, here they are…
1. Lose weight by my 30th birthday.
I’m tired of being overweight and this seemed just as good a goal as any. Unfortunately, it means that my time is rapidly growing short, but well, let’s check back on this one later…2. Pay off enormous amounts of debt.
This is one that I’m actually very proud about because Sara and I have done very good at not splurging too much and focusing our extra income at our bills thus far this year. I won’t give any numbers here because it’s kinda sad and it’s going to be a long road, but so far, so good!3. Start making money with my writing business again.
I feel like I’m kind of getting to a place in my life where this either needs to start making progress towards being a career or it’s going to die away, so I’m trying to focus more on this whenever I can. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time, but I know it’s one of those things that I just have to pour ridiculous amounts of time into if I ever want it to become a reality.4. Spend more time at Walt Disney World.
Unfortunately this one has the ability to counteract numbers 1, 2, and 3 if we’re not careful, but we didn’t spend nearly as much time over at Disney last year because Sara was doing battle with nursing school. Now that it’s over, though, I’d like to see us start spending more time there, even if just to walk around, eat dinner, watch fireworks, and randomly challenge each other’s high scores at Buzz and Toy Story Mania.5. Spend more time with Sara in general.
Again a victim of the great nursing school massacre of 2008-2009, there was a considerable gap there when I didn’t really get to see my wife at all unless I was running her lunch to her at two in the morning or getting married to her, so now that it’s over we’re trying to do better, and frankly, this is another one where I’m feeling pretty good about it thus far. We used to go see movies like crazy and we’re starting to get into that again (as duly noted here), and hopefully numbers 4 and 6 will help here as well…6. Explore the area to find suitable places for our house.
Now don’t get me wrong, we’re probably still another year or two off from buying a house of our very own, but as we get more debts paid off and move forward in life, this is one of several of those major life changes that we’ve got coming up ahead on the horizon so we might as well start planning for it now! We both know that we want to stay in the Tampa Bay area and I’ve got a few ideas on where to start (I’d like to be a lot closer to the city, but also near the water), so something I’d really like to do this summer and fall is really start scouting around for places where we might like to, well, settle down and *gasp* raise a family…
So there they are – let’s check back in six months (more likely 11 or 12…) and see where we’re at!

So as I mentioned last night, yesterday we went to see Alice in Wonderland and low and behold, it was in 3d.
And I’ve got to admit that I’m just a little confused by the push that 3d has been getting – a healthy bit in the last couple of years, but even more so here in 2010 already. It seems like every other big name movie to hit the screen has a 3d version, kinda like the one we just saw, which simply leads me to wonder … why??? I mean, at least in the last couple of years, a movie in “3d” had maybe ten or fifteen minutes of actual 3d (usually the key action sequence), but Alice was entirely in 3d, which frankly just seemed like too much.
What’s worse – “the latest buzz” from the tech center is that 3d is expected to be the next big thing, a la what comes after HD, but I’m just not seeing it.
First of all, watching two hours of 3d Alice in the theater ended up giving me a nasty headache that ended up lasting most of the night.
Secondly – who wants to sit around their own living room wearing 3d glasses?!
To me, 3d is a gimmick, and until it actually gets interactive (think VR), it always will be. And that’s fine for theme park attractions or even those action-packed movie sequences where I feel like Optimus Prime is kicking ass right all around me, but it just doesn’t have any appeal to me beyond that short-term, gimmicky phase. Besides, although you can definitely argue that 3d technology has gotten considerably better over the years, it still doesn’t bring the impact that, say, high definition brought to our living rooms. I mean, the difference is clear as night and day, to the point where years ago before there was much of any content at all, us early adopters would sit around watching nature documentaries on The Discovery Channel just because it looked absolutely incredible in HD!
I just don’t see that with 3d, though, and I for one certainly won’t be running out to buy a new 3d television anytime soon … if ever. Give me a beautiful-looking flat screen that’s approaching sizes to make my living room feel like my own personal theater and I’d much rather go that route instead. If I want 3d, I’ll go watch Muppet*Vision over at Disney World… 😛
