FW: Economic Recovery Plan

I got this as an e-mail forward last night and thought it sounded like a great plan – the perfect, Average Joe-friendly solution to our current financial crisis! Then I went back to the 2nd grade and remembered something from basic math…

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG – liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.
Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .
And remember, it only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Why can Washington keep it this simple???

$85 billion divided by 200 million people comes out to $425 / person – not $425,000 / person.  To offer every adult in the nation that kind of dividend would cost $85 trillion, or about nine times the current national debt.

Yeah, “it’s a crazy idea that can never work,” but as much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s really not Washington’s fault that math doesn’t work that way.

another reason why DRM is bad…

Wal-Mart Shutting Down DRM Server

Wal*Mart shutting down DRM server, nuking your music collection — only people who pay for music risk losing it to DRM shenanigans

First Yahoo!, now Wal-Mart. For those that don’t follow, if you’ve bought DRM-laden music from either of these folks, your music will basically be toast after they shut their servers down because if your media player can’t connect to authenticate, it won’t play. Wal-Mart’s “instructions” seem to be the same as Yahoo!’s were … burn all of your music to CDs if you want to avoid losing it. Kinda defeats downloading the MP3s in the first place, now doesn’t it???

Altogether now – “DRM only affects people who follow the law to begin with … it doesn’t actually do squat to help prevent piracy…”

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on SNL

I just watched Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s spoof about Sarah Palin & Hillary Clinton from SNL last week – pure comedy gold. I think I liked her response to the Bush Doctrine the best…

And while despite some idiot commentary I saw stating that SNL might not necessarily care about McCain getting elected because it would give them four years of these kinds of skits, even though Tina Fey isn’t actually on the show anymore, I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up making a few more guest appearances between now and November if anything because I think any efforts to help the public realize how badly they can’t let this happen is worthwhile!

stupid css … thank god

I was just about to post some really bitchy post here to say how WordPress is driving me crazy with its CSS and how it’s formatting images in my posts for my new Disney site, but before doing so, I thought to open up the main stylesheet and found the culprit that was overriding my float option for all of my post images.

Whew. That’s been pissing me off for weeks! Time to go back and remove all of my junk formatting in those posts that was trying to over-correct the stylesheet, then I deserve a break…

gross bug, take 2

It seems that Lori’s gargantuan, ugly friend has a Southern relative…

This one was also hanging out near the door, assumingly waiting for me to leave so he could rough up the joint. Any bug people know what the fuck these things are and what can be done to keep their ugly asses away from my house and loved ones?
