Laziness is simply the subtle art of resting before you get tired…

This truly was one of the laziest weekends I’ve enjoyed in a while, and I loved every minute of it! Last week I started working overtime at the job again because hey, if they’re going to simply give away free money, then I’d be crazy not to take advantage of it! I put in twelve last week and they’re already scheduling me for more starting tomorrow – keep it coming, guys…

So the primary reason that I sat around all weekend was because I’m finally able to download stuff to my computer again…and boy did I ever! I’ve been pretty much neglecting my cable connection since I got here because I was more or less out of disk space, or at least I was until my new 160 GB baby showed up last Thursday night! The array in my server is now up to 400 GB and after cleaning out my desktop’s drive, it still has over 100 GB to spare, so I had some catching up to do this weekend. I just completed Season #15 of The Simpsons and will make it my goal in life to work my way backwards to Season #01 over the next several days and weeks…so I pretty much spent the bulk of my time watching most of the newer episodes that I’ve missed and it was definitely time well spent!

In other news, I’ve taken the next big step with my cell phone and entered the realm of people who spend excessive amounts of time with their camera phones, so it seemed only fitting to create a new blog to help capture the whole experience – enter Scott’s MoBlog!!! Low quality digital photography has never been this much fun, I’ll tell ya – follow the link, comment on all of the things I’ve felt the need to capture on my neat little Samsung A680 camera phone (provided by Sprint PCS), and even sign up for a free moblog for yourself – it’s an exciting life here in the age of technology, ain’t it?!

Tomorrow I’ll throw up a few shots from my desk at work so everyone else can get an idea of the lovely view that I enjoy for eight hours a day…

…don’t push me, people…

And now, more Pet Peeves from the Grocery Store…

  • Talking on Your Cell Phone: I know, we all lead demanding lives that require us to be within earshot of our colleagues and loved ones every waking hour of the day, but how ’bout a little courtesy, eh?! Whether it’s walking down the aisle oblivious to the rest of us in the store or simply ignoring the cashier as you gab on with your girlfriend about last night at the club, it’s rude, so knock it off!!! Hang up for fifteen minutes, shop, and then get on with your life…
  • Blocking the Aisle, etc…: We all see a lot of people just leave their carts hap-hazardly in the aisle and normally this isn’t a big deal – move the cart to one side and go about your way, but the situation changes a bit when there just happens to be a baby onboard, if you know what I mean! Nobody has ever accused me of trying to make off with their Minute Rice, but just try moving a cart to one side so that you can get yourself a bushel of bananas and be prepared for one hysterical mother on your hands! Nevermind that she left her child unattended in the first place – how dare you give the impression that she’s not the only person in the store…
  • Abusing the Carry-Out Service: I had my first experience with this one tonight, unfortunately. You see, here in Florida we have an abundance of disabled and elderly folks who simply can’t exert themselves physically like those of us who are much younger, so many of the local grocery stores offer free carry-out services to make shopping a little easier for them. Low and behold, today I watched a girl that couldn’t have been more than nineteen or twenty demand that one of the baggers carry her groceries out to the brand new jeep that she had parked outside…just because it was a free service and she deserved it just as much as the next person.Sorry honey, but if you’re able enough to cruise around with the top down and load up on Zima, you’re able enough to carry your own fucking groceries…But enough grumbling for one evening! Nonetheless, coming soon to a blog near you:

Scott’s very first cell phone-initiated blog!

Good things DO happen to good people!

Upon checking the messages on my answering machine when I got home, it turns out that I won a free trip to the Bahamas – myself and a guest, four nights, all expenses paid – how cool is that?!

Hmmm, if the offer of a trip to the Bahamas can’t get me a date around here, I don’t know what will…

All is well with the world.

Two days in and this is turning out to be a pretty good week…

  • Mess at work got cleared up first thing Monday morning and I got my write-access ID given back to me – no more need to seek a new job!
  • Got a schedule review back from my editor for the paper and contrary to previous e-mails, he wants more local coverage than before!
  • Decided that I’m going to switch cell phone providers again after two content years with AllTel. Sorry guys, but a 15% discount and a free picture phone is just too good to pass up…especially because I’m getting bored with my old one… 🙁
  • Came across a very cool looking chick while leaving work yesterday, whom I will now hunt down within our building and eventually possibly even learn her name! (why doesn’t Outlook come equiped with a photo gallery option?!)
  • Finally within a few columns of getting completely caught up with the content on my personal website, which I hope to place online by the end of the week.
  • Also came to terms that I’m going to have to shut down Just Laugh after all these years because I just don’t have the time anymore. Not necessarily a good thing, but I’m glad that I can finally live with the decision…
  • AndI finally got the snazzy wireless keyboard and mouse working that I bought six months ago when I first got down here – w00t!Two down, three to go – happy hump day!!!

excess baggage

Why is it that Wal-Mart trains its cashiers to push their plastic bags like they’re going out of style??? I mean, I purchase three or four tiny items and end up coming home with two or three dozen bags! Is their warehouse so overstocked that they’re doing everything that they can to unload the things, or are these things that weak that any more than one item would break through the bottom like a wet paper bag?

I’d like to know, really, because it otherwise just seems like a waste to me…but maybe I’m the crazy one!
