Pics from the Sand…

Yesterday we spent some time over at the beach to enjoy the sunshine and generally just try to unwind after a long week. It was a really great opportunity to spend some time with Sara just bouncing around in the waves, and at the end of the day the sunset wasn’t too shabby either!

P.S. So far I’m really liking that the 5-megapixel camera built into my iPhone is a few steps above the horrible, allegedly 2-megapixel joke that was a part of my last phone! Ahhh, the progress we’ve made…

copy protection overkill

I couldn’t help but laugh when I came across the “copy protection” that was built into this site for cartoonist’s trying to sell their individual strips…

Now nevermind the goofy URL – it looks like it got scooped up by domain squatters a few years ago – but to truly experience the absolute genius behind this system, go to one of their links LIKE THIS ONE RIGHT HERE and accidentally just hover your mouse over the comic itself … like I did several times before I realized what was actually going on.

Talk about the most intrusive right-click disabling attempt I’ve ever seen – I almost thought that their site was just plain broken at first until I moved my cursor and found the shiny, full-color Opus waiting for my persual below. Funny thing is, you can still get to the actual JPG by simply doing a quick search of the HTML source, and you could even just do a screen capture if you really wanted.

The point is, yes – stealing people’s creative work is bad, but there’s got to be a better way to spend your time enforcing it than by implementing silly tactics like this that in the end just make your work even more inaccessible and undesirable to everyone else who never had any intention of stealing your work in the first place.

learning how to “relax”…

This has been sort of a hectic week – not super stressful like the past few have been, but more so just busy with lots of things to try and get done in a less than preferred amount of time. If anything, I’m realizing through all of this that it sure would be nice to have some sort of coping mechanism to help center me throughout the week.

I don’t want to get all preachy or new age, but it makes me wonder if something like meditation might help, believe it or not. I’m already doing a lot of the stretching via the yoga in my WiiFit routine, which I’m finally starting to get back into again, but on top of that I guess I’m wondering if I could benefit more from just taking some time to sit and clear my head, quiet without thinking of anything in particular.

I feel like something of this nature could help because throughout the day it seems like my mind is almost constantly whirling through all of the things that I need to do that day and that week, on top of whatever I’m trying to focus on at the moment. Sometimes it gets to be a bit overwhelming and I’ll be honest, I think that my creative process tends to suffer at that point … not to mention the sanity of me and everyone in my vicinity! Even when I lay down for bed, sometimes I’ll find myself getting up two or three times to take notes of random ideas that are floating through my head … which don’t get me wrong is great from a creativity standpoint, but eventually I do need to be able to wind down and turn it off for a while and right now, that’s kinda tough for me.

Anybody versed in meditation that can offer up some advice? How do I do it, specifically – do I just sit there, close my eyes, and try not to think of anything??? Maybe I could get a comfortable mat, some ocean sounds on CD, and go sit out by the pool or something at nighttime – I don’t know! The concept of actually figuring out how to truly relax does admittedly sound nice, though…

Favorite Moments from the First Five

Some men out there get a lot of crap for not remembering key dates along their relationship, but I guess I’m one of the weird ones that actually remembers them … like today, which just so happens to be the 5th anniversary of the very first date that my wife and I shared together back in 2006. Over the years, I’ve tried to make a habit of writing something special to commemorate this day, so this year I thought it might be fun to take a look back at a few of my favorite moments with my love over the last five years…

A Golden Dolphin at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Our 6-month dating anniversary that we spent over at Disney World had a lot of cool memories – our hotel room boasted views of animals out on the Savannah 24 hours a day, we enjoyed a great teppan meal at the Japanese Pavilion at Epcot, and also, it represented the first time that I ever bought real jewelry for a girlfriend … I think I was more nervous picking out this little golden charm than I was when I bought her engagement ring a few months later!
Swimming with Akai
It’s hard to top the evening when you propose to your bride to be, but we still managed to go even a notch higher when we spent the next day swimming with dolphins, among other sea creatures over at Discovery Cove. Getting to experience one of Sara’s life-long dreams with her was something unlike any other. Also, dolphins are really heavy
Meatballs and Spanakopita
Next up was the food tasting for our wedding, as enjoyed at Spinners at the top of the Grand Plaza Hotel over on St. Pete Beach where we would eventually have our wedding ceremony about a year later. Little did I know that I wouldn’t actually get the opportunity to enjoy any of those Swedish meatballs on my own day, so it was at least nice to try them here! It’s still a nice restaurant that we like to wander back to from time to time, with a rotating floor that offers panoramic views of both the coast and the mainland.
An Anniversary Fit for a Pirate!
Last fall my wife surprised me for our anniversary with a trip to Disneyland, which in itself was pretty sweet, but what truly knocked it out of the park was the dinner she planned for the actual night of our anniversary. Super fancy with coat and tie? Crappy food served in miniscule portions?? Nopepirate dinner, complete with romantic mood lighting, crab cakes, and pumpkin mousse for dessert! In a single word – awesome.
Bubbling Under the Stars
And my last memorable moment actually just happened a couple of days ago, however it’s mentionable more because a lot of it was spent looking forward into the future – our future together, growing our family, pursuing dreams, and generally just enjoying each other’s company along the way. It was a true calm and serene moment with the water bubbling around us and the stars twinkling above, and it just made me feel happy about all of the things next to come.

Here’s to the next five years and all of the new memories that we share together along the way!

a Brazilian boatloads of beef

You ever eat so much steak that you feel like your intestines are ready to boycott the rest of your digestive system???

Tonight we went out to this Brazilian steakhouse down in Tampa that offered all-you-can-eat servings of 17 different meats, including more cuts of beef than you can shake a steak knife at! It was kind of similar to ‘Ohana over at the Polynesian where the servers just walk around with skewers full of random meats and they unload as much as you want right onto your plate, except Disney’s version only has four meats and they’re more of a variety (chicken, shrimp, steak and something else, I think?), whereas this was just one cut of steak after another that I couldn’t have possibly picked out of a line-up on my own!

So much food, and yet so good – this one will definitely get added onto our list of worthwhile local eateries to take friends and family when they come to visit. Let’s hope by then the two or three (or four?!) steaks worth that I ate tonight will have managed to clear out so that I’ll actually have room for more…

random photos from Downtown Disney

I’ve got to admit that I’m getting pretty excited about the mysterious (unofficial) Disney project that I’ve been working on lately – I just can’t wait to get it to the point where I can start making actual announcements about it! Of course, I know better than to do that until it’s actually completed, but in the meantime, here are a few more pics that I took that I thought were kinda neat. Sara and I went over to Downtown Disney yesterday with her sister and cousin for dinner and a round of mini-golf, and as usual, a few random things caught my eye…

One of several displays around Downtown Disney promoting this year’s Flower & Garden Festival over at Epcot.

A random Mickey I found in Guest Relations that I really liked the colors of – reminded me of one of the restaurants we ate at out at Disneyland.

The restaurant where we ate dinner that night – pretty good, and had some really nice views of the Sassagoula River that runs along Downtown Disney out back.

Goofy’s Candy Co is stocked up and ready for Easter!

And although admittedly I don’t really get them, I thought this was a cool monster Vinylmation display of about a dozen sets in The Art of Disney.

new D&D photos, campaign style!

I haven’t posted D&D pics for a while because I haven’t been playing LFR hardly at all this year – something about trying to focus on a writing career or some other nonsense…

Anyways, I do still play in a bi-weekly campaign that somewhat fulfills my fix in the meantime, however the pictures don’t really get shared publicly … until now! Here are but a handful of my favorites from the last couple of sessions.

P.S. I do hope to get back into the other games again this summer once I can get some projects behind me this year and when that happens, I’m sure I’ll start posting more again, but in the meantime don’t forget that there are a whopping 23 LFR Adventure Logs already sitting in the archives over at tampadnd.org that also have some mighty purdy photos themselves!

Fruit Ninja is my Angry Birds now

I love this game.

Simple, quick, and super easy to play – just dice up the flying fruit with your finger as they appear on the screen. Maybe it’s because I kinda got stuck in Angry Birds and just couldn’t get any farther, but I think Fruit Ninja has officially become my new bathroom game.

TMI???

More like TMA!!!

(too much awesome)
