Ho-ly Crap!!!

So I just finished watching the Battlestar Galactica mini-series that one of my co-workers lent me the other day, and I am officially addicted.

I normally don’t get really into sci-fi, at least not as far as Star Trek and all of the Star Wars knock-offs are concerned, but I was surprised to find that Galactica is actually really good! Good, solid characters, killer plot, and the cliffhangers – clearly they must’ve done something right because I would so drive to a store to buy season one right now if somebody was open that would actually have it. In fact, I’m trying to think of where I can get a replacement battery for my laptop so that it would stay on long enough to play them on the plane up to New York tomorrow night … but that may be a stretch because that beast is on its last leg anyways. If not, I’m not sure how I’m going to last another four days until we’re back home and I can jump back into the series … man!

Why didn’t anybody tell me that this show was THAT good?!

What do you think, America???

When you’re picking up food from a sit-down restaurant that also offers curbside pick-up (i.e., Chili’s To Go, in this case), do you add a tip onto the bill for the person carrying out the food or is it the equivalent to the drive-up window where a tip isn’t necessary??? The last couple of times we did this, I added on a couple of bucks just to err on the side of caution (and because I didn’t want to get out of the car!), but at the same time, there’s no drinks to keep filled or other ammenities to provide … pretty much just the walking food out to the car and taking my payment.

Thoughts? Insights? Clever banter?

Historic ‘Blockbuster’ Store Offers Glimpse of How Movies Were Rented in the Past

Iron Man

So Sara and I finally broke down and went to see Iron Man last night, and it was awesome.

I won’t go so far as to say that it’s the best superhero movie of all time, but it’s certainly still managed to tie with the Spider-Man series and that’s still a mighty feat for any flick because I think that every single episode of that trilogy was just superbly done. Kind of how Spider-Man 3 established an early domination of the summer blockbuster season last year, I can’t imagine any movies this summer being pulled off this well … and don’t get me wrong, it would be great if some of them did! The special effects were spot on, with a high note being the two scenes where Tony Stark goes to “test out” his upgraded suit, first alone and then in a more intense setting! I didn’t really know much about the plot or the original story behind Iron Man, so that was all new to me, too, and that had so many twists and turns that it was like I felt the pain right along with Tony as he got smacked down! The characters all seemed to be cast spot-on – no arguments there – and even though as I mentioned, I really know nothing about the Iron Man universe, per se, that final geek quip at the end for anybody who stayed past the credits was certainly intriguing for me … and I barely even got the reference!

Ultimately, it was good enough that we’ve both said that we wouldn’t mind seeing it again if it’s still on in a few weeks when we can find the time again, assuming that there’s nothing else playing yet, so it made for a pretty decent night out. As soon as I finish this post, we’re heading out the door to go checkout the new Toy Story attraction over at Disney, so I’ll try to post photos and whatnot sometime later on in the weekend…

Grand Theft RECORD SALES…

Of course, because news reporters love controversy, I’ve seen a lot of articles about the GTA4 launch this week and frankly, I’m kind of happy to see that it’s selling as well as it is. $310 million on its first day nearly doubles Halo 3’s sales for the first week, and an amazing $500 million its first week is more than most theatrical movies earn from start to finish! In a culture where so many conservatives are so adamant that video games are the root of all evil around the world, it’s somewhat comforting to see sales figures to back up the notion that said idiots are the minority, not the other way around as Fox News would like us to think.

And as for the content, I don’t really have a problem with it and as far as I’m concerned, as long as Wal-Mart (and all of the other retailers) take whatever steps they normally do to “card” underage purchasers to prevent kids from getting their hands on this violent hit, the ball’s in the parents’ court after that. As long as my generation continues to be the driving force behind video games, you’re going to have to get used to the fact that some games are going to be made just for adults, and just like with movies and music, there’s only so much the providers themselves can (or should have to…) do to keep little Timmy all innocent and safe. Frankly, it doesn’t bother me if you can allegedly have sex with a hooker and then kill her afterwards in GTA4 because technically you could do the same thing in GTA3, and anyone who thinks that sounds simply blasphamous clearly hasn’t seen it actually done in the game. At the end of the day, it’s still pixelated cartoon sex and violence, and if I want to see the real thing, I can certainly find a lot more disturbing imagery on the local news between shots of the bad neighborhoods in town and the ongoing coverage of “the war” in Iraq.

I think if anything, the only thing that bothers me about GTA4 is that I can’t play it right now! With the wedding coming up in less than five months now, I can’t exactly plunk down the extra cash for a new system that I’m only really interested in for one title at this point, especially when we’re planning on doing so after the wedding by getting a Wii … probably not much chance of seeing GTA4 on the Wii, though! Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to beat up hookers and innocent bystanders the old fashioned way in GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas until I can get my hands on a PS3 or a 360 at a decent price… 🙁

Simpsons overdose?

They really need to either introduce some more seasons to syndication or get another DVD set on the market because lately I haven’t been getting past the first few lines of a given episode off the DVR without feeling like I already watched it within the last week.

At two seasons a year, aren’t they a little behind on bringing season eleven to DVD??? Ten came out last August, so you do the math… 🙁

Oh, the weather outside is awesome.

This is the perfect time of year in Florida for me. Well, this and October/November before the temperatures “really” start dipping back down to those dreaded sub-50-degree numbers in the evenings. Right now is great, though – it’s warm, but not blazing hot in the morning; the afternoons are sunny and hot, but not so much that you can’t go outside for a bit; and the evenings are still warm enough that a relaxing dip in the pool after a workout is comfortable, yet I can open up some windows around the house after it gets dark to help circulate air. In another month when the frogs start going at it, open doors and windows will no longer be an option so I have to enjoy that while I can!

Soon those tables will turn and instead of the weather being quaint and enjoyable, it’ll be pushing 100 degrees mid-afternoon, only cooled down by the 4pm rain, and you probably won’t catch me outside for anything more than a brief moment when the sun is up. Luckily Disney blocks us out of the parks all summer when it’s mad hot anyways, so that makes it a little easier. Still, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else…

hmmm…

I’m not sure which one I should be more concerned about – the fact that we missed our scheduled appointment with the GE technician sent to fix our fridge this morning or the idea that they went through six other Dans before successfully even getting somebody to our front door!
