the weekend blog…

Lazy Sunday (+Friday & Saturday)
Ok, so we pretty much did absolutely nothing this weekend, which neither of us really feel all that bad about because it was ever so long overdue. It feels like we’ve just been going nonstop all summer with either flying here or there on vacation, or even just running around frantically on the weekends … as short as they are … so it was really, really nice to just be able to lay around the house doing as we pleased. I don’t think I took my shower until about 6pm yesterday and didn’t take one at all today (hey, the pool counts, right?!), and pretty much the whole duration was spent laying around in our pajamas, or at least the Floridian equivalent as such. Sara spent what seemed like a good ten hours each day playing A Link to the Past on the SNES, I had some time to breathe and work on other little thing here and there, and at this point I’m only jealous that she gets tomorrow off, too, and I don’t!

Flora and More Flora
One of the things I focused on today was getting my plants back to health because I’ve pretty much ignored them since we got back from New York (over a month ago???). Some of them are positioned in a manner out on the balcony where they can get some rain during the daily thunderstorms right now, but a lot of them still didn’t and I did an awful lot of dead or dying leaf removal along the way. The majority of them, mind you, will be ok – I just need to start watering them more regularly again and get some plant food in them – but there are a couple that are being propped up by yardsticks right now and in not too good of shape. Ultimately there was only one that didn’t make it, and I guess that’s just a lesson that I need to spend just a little bit more time on them in the future. You wouldn’t think that twenty minutes here or there would be too hard to handle, but…

Funny Stuff
I’m inserting these now just in case Firefox crashes before my next post and I lose the links – funny stuff I found a la digg:

MOSI Plans
I still don’t know what’s going on here… We had originally planned on going this weekend to see BODIES because the exhibit is leaving on Tuesday, but it just really interferred with our plans of doing absolutely nothing this weekend and we didn’t end up going. And mind you, this is all on me because I decided that I wanted to go later instead so that we wouldn’t feel rushed, but even now the agreement is to go after I get out of work tomorrow night and I’m not really sure if I even care anymore. I still think it would be neat and when’s the next time I’ll get an opportunity to see the human body in such a raw form (no pun intended, and it’s really kind of gross, anyways…)? Sara’s already seen it, so it’s completely up to me – part of me keeps saying that I need to just bite the bullet and go because I’ll regret it later if we don’t, but we’ll see. Tomorrow’s going to be such a ridiculously lax day at work anyways that maybe I’ll be more up for an outing after work than normal – let’s hope that’s the case!

Next Update: exercise progress (or lack thereof), Disney reservations, and Scott’s latest rant about life in suburbia

my stomach is still intact!

So Busch Gardens yesterday was actually pretty fun, which surprised me because I’m just about as much of a “not a rollercoaster” person as one can get and that’s pretty much all we did while we were there. The storms on and off only gave us a couple of hours in the park while coasters were running and that’s what Sara’s cousin wanted to do, so that’s what we did. I’m actually pretty proud of myself because I ended up going on pretty much every single one that Sara went on – including Sheikra, which as a side note, is absolutely fucking insane. The view was pretty for about fifteen seconds until they let us drop, and out-of-towners should note that this is their new trademark coaster that pretty much drops you straight down while you’re facing straight down, so as far as I’m concerned, it was a miracle that I was able to contain my lunch for that one…

Wow.

But they did have some cool ones – I really liked the Python, although it could’ve stood to be about four or five times longer; whatever water ride we went on would’ve been great, had we actually planned on getting wet. The only one that I really didn’t care for at all was the wooden coaster (don’t remember its name) because the bumps were just too much for me. And here I was, just starting to get the hang of the speeds and dips and whatnot, and then they’ve got to go and take me back to the dirt roads of Northern Michigan to boot! I probably wouldn’t do that one again, but pretty much anything else is fair game … even the insane one that is Sheikra, assuming that my co-riders understand the concept of “you owe me one,” that is!

All in all, it was a fun way to spend a few hours and I look forward to going back in a few months when it’s a little cooler so that Sara and I can check out the animals and shows and all of that. Granted, I could certainly do without the smells of cigarette smoke and beer – the beer is usually fine by itself to me, but when people don’t heed to the signs and just smoke wherever they want, the two mixing together is gross. We also didn’t end up seeing The Hippo Lady and by God, we certainly did look! Maybe next time… Of course, ultimately I’m going to be a little rougher than normal because I’m spoiled by being a Disney kid through and through, but at the same time I can see how this could be a nice alternative if we don’t feel like driving over to Orlando or have guests in town who are looking for a little more than what Space Mountain can offer.

I’ll go back, so it couldn’t have been too bad!

a pirate looks at twenty-six…

So I haven’t really had much time to write for a while – we’ve pretty much just been going non-stop since we got back from Michigan, but at least things are calming down a little now. In fact, I’m actually supposed to be making breakfast right now, but I’m “waiting for the pan to warm up” while I write this… 😛

Snakes on a Phone…

http://snakesonaplane.varitalk.com/

If you haven’t done it yet, hurry up and prank a few people before it’s too late and this gets widespread! This site lets you send a personalized voicemail from Samuel L. Jackson himself to the “victim” of your choice – sounds the farthest away from an automated message as I’ve ever heard … very cool, indeed. Enjoy!

Whew – AM edition

Just finished packing and loading everything in the car. Mental note – stop putting this part off until the last minute!

Will be a little late for work … forgot to call in and just got a call from the boss, but at least she didn’t sound mad.

Comic is all queued up and ready to go for tomorrow. (Although anyone who reads via MySpace will have to wait because I still have to do that manually and I don’t want to post it there ahead of schedule. Multi-million dollar company and they can’t incorporate RSS into their blogs???)

Hopefully will have wi-fi at the hotel tonight because airports are usually too busy for me to bother getting my laptop out there, but we’ll see. I do have a lot of work to do, but whether it will actually get done or just wait until Tuesday is still to be forseen.

Last night Sara talked me into getting a pedicure. Still waiting to find out if I’m officially gay or not, but either way it was a good time for both feet involved. Hmmmm…

Will be in Michigan about twelve hours from now, and Northern Michigan another fourteen or so from then. Should be fun!

And lastly, was just reminded today that Snakes on a Plane opens tomorrow. I might drag Lori and Ray to go see it with us, if Gaylord’s theater won’t be completely packed. It’s on, biatch!

analysis

The Good

  • Wrote an entire column from start to finish last weekend and sort of got motivated to work on my writing again. Not sure when, but…
  • Kevin Smith tickets for 9/23 have officially been ordered!
  • Will be in Michigan two days from now. Absolutely can’t wait to introduce Sara to my family.

The Bad

  • Never seem to have enough time to do anything anymore, and I feel like I’ve been wasting a lot of the time that I do have on procrastination.
  • New pills are taking their toll on Sara pretty rough, and I haven’t been giving her as much support as I think I should be because of the stress.
  • Job is about as un-rewarding as it has ever been – I’m so unbelievably bored between the hours of 9am-6pm right now. It’s seriously just a paycheck to me right now, which makes me kind of sad because it didn’t use to be that way.

The Frustrating

  • Again with the not having enough time thing – maybe I just want to do too many things, but I can’t even bring myself to take a single one off the list to lighten my load.
  • Started off a new daily exercise plan on Friday and have already missed two days since.
  • No matter how much time I dedicate to cleaning each night, I always seem to find something that bothers me when I get up the next morning. Not sure if that makes me OCD or just anal…

Also…

…iTunes seems to have this stupid habit of crashing my network connection now anytime I open it because it wants to update all of my podcasts at the same freaking time! Apple – I like your software, but not enough to warrant rebooting my machine every time I want to hear some new music. Grrr…

stress, stress – go away…

Man, am I going to be happy when these stressful days are gone.

Of course, that’s not likely to happen anytime soon, so I guess in the meantime we’ll just take it one day at a time… 😛

It was a very busy weekend as we began preparing for our trip up to Michigan later on this week. Yesterday we went over to Downtown Disney for presents and also saw a movie (Miami Vice – it sucked – should’ve listened to everyone’s reviews). Today was pretty much entirely devoted to finding Sara a dress for the luau, which we did actually do after visiting about the 113th beach shop along the gulf coast. It was a very trying trip and we were both immensely happy when she found something that would work, but as a side note, in the meantime we did decide that we’re going to buy a sweet condo on the beach once we’re millionaires and have tons of money to blow. I don’t quite remember whose responsibility it is to make all of that dough, though – will have to check back on that one.

So we’ve still got a ton of crap to do – gifts need to be prepared, articles for the paper up there need to be written because a deadline will pass while we’re away, packing of sorts needs to take place, I need a haircut and Sara wants to get her nails done, the house never actually did get cleaned from when we got back from the last trip – the list just goes on and on! Also, we have strong suspicions that there might be a mouse or rat living up in the attic … either that or some very large cockroaches … because we could hear them scurrying around the other night above the bathroom that sits off of our bedroom. We bought a neat, little trap for that purpose earlier today, but I’ll be very surprised if it gets put into place anytime before we leave.

So much to do, so little time – these are the days of our lives!
