My death machine has a first name…

Ok, so I started exercising again tonight.

To sum it up in three words: feel the pain

According to my exercise log, the last time I worked out was on October 22nd and judging by the shooting pains in my thighs, that’s about two and a half months sans exercise too long! Last fall, apparently I was going for more than an hour at a time and tonight I barely drudged through fifteen minutes before collapsing in defeat – it’s going to be a long road back to the top…

My new sworn enemy…

My goal is still to get down to 200 lbs or maybe a little less and I’ve only gained back about six of what I lost last year (currently at 221), but I think things are going to go a little smoother for me this time. Having the machine right here at home so that I can exercise pretty much whenever I want should hopefully free me of the burdens of trying to find time to go down to the gym, plus I can watch TV while I do it and that’s got to make the time pass faster than it did by just talking to myself! 🙂 Tonight I was finally able to delve into season six of The Simpsons and there’s a good four discs to that boxed set, so if the motivation isn’t there now, I probably won’t ever find it!

To one of the many resolutions I’ve set this year, wish me luck!

Also – seeking Photoshop help…

Does anybody have any good tips for cleaning up blurry photos in Photoshop? I have one in particular that’s a fairly hi-res picture (2272×1704) and the only problem I have with it is that it’s a little blurry when I print it as an 8×10.

Any ideas other than “print it smaller”?

2005 Year in Review

So looking back, in a single word I would have to describe the year of 2005 as chaotic at best. I won’t even bother to try to break it down month by month because, frankly, it all just sort of blurs together for me at this point. The threat of unemployment hovered over me for more months this year than I care to count, I’ve spent the last eight months trying to move on from a girl that I should’ve been proposing to this Christmas, and I almost lost a family member altogether earlier this year. You might say that this hasn’t exactly been my finest year…

…but then again, it has had its good points as well. Two months ago, I was told that I would be keeping my job and that there won’t be any more layoffs in the foreseeable future, so that’s comforting. On the creative side, I’ve started exploring some new avenues with my sister, not to mention began entertaining the idea of bringing back some old favorites as well. For better or for worse, I did move into a new condo that is considerably nicer than the old apartment that had parties waking me up at 3am. And that girl? Well, it’s tough for me to say because I still miss her a whole lot, but if anything I’m certainly thankful for the time that we did have together because she taught me a lot about myself and the kind of life that I want to live.

I guess when it all comes down to it, things can’t be perfect every single year and of those that I can recall, 2005 just happened to be the one that wouldn’t stop coming even after mercy had been called. It’s unfortunate, yes, but life isn’t always fair – there’s a moniker for this past year if I’ve ever heard one! What’s important, though, is that we learn from said shit storm so that we can do whatever it takes to prevent it from happening again in the future. They say that it’s how we deal with problems like these that makes us who we really are … so with the coming of 2006, I have but one thing to say – let’s play ball…

Resolutions to come soon.

Firefox is neato!

I just started looking into the extensions available for Firefox and already, Sessionsaver is a godsend! My computer woes have me rebooting all of the time lately and it always seems to be when I have a lot of browser tabs open that I don’t necessarily want to lose. Now I re-open Firefox and, Bam! – everything’s right where I left off before chaos broke loose! Brilliant…

I hate pushy telemarketers…

If I tell you I’m not interested, I’m really just trying to be polite when I should’ve hung up on you in the first place – don’t tell me that I need to “Stop and think about the offer before making a hasty decision…” I know that I’m going to forget to call and cancel your “special program” and end up getting charged $69.95 for something that I didn’t really want in the first place, so accept the courtesy when I actually answer the phone and take No for an answer…

Apologies to those who “never seem to catch me at home,” but this is why I don’t answer my phone if your name doesn’t pop up in the caller ID. 🙁

greenlight

Sometimes it feels like both a blessing and a curse when I come across a new television series past its prime that I haven’t seen yet. It’s not uncommon for me to sit down after finding the DVDs or downloading a new series and literally spend the entire weekend watching my new treasure – it happened with Sports Night, it happened with Dawson’s Creek (whew – that was a long one!), and most recently it has happened with Project Greenlight.

The DVDs have been sitting on my entertainment center for a few weeks now, but as soon as I put them in, I knew that the rest of my free time until they were finished was pretty much forfeit. I first got addicted to the series earlier this spring with season 3 (featuring Feast – the horror movie), so now I’m actually traveling back in time to season two (The Battle of Shaker Heights). There’s currently about two episodes left in the season to go, plus the movie itself, and the more I watch this show, the more I get pissed that it’s not going to be on the air anymore! I’ve always been interested to at least some extent with movie making, to a point where sometimes I wondered if it would be worth pursuing as a career, so for me this really is one of my favorite shows. Plus, I’ve always been a big fan of the Affleck / Damon combo, so its fun to see them interact with the rest of the people trying to make these movies.

There are some shows that I know I’ve bought and probably only watched once since, but I really think that this set is going to get a decent amount of playback out of me – possibly even enough to justify going out and buying season one before too long. Hehehe – maybe I do have plans for New Years now after all… 😉
