It felt like it would never come, but the day is finally here – gave the keys back to our rental last night, so we’re officially moved out of the old house and into our own home!

Granted, it’s probably going to be a long, long time until we actually unpack everything in our new place, and it doesn’t help that a week from now we’ll be leaving on vacation already, but right now, it’s nice to know that at least one giant load of stress is finally officially behind us.

My last view of the old house yesterday before closing up and pulling away – it was a nice place to live, but our new place is even better because it’s ours! 😉

More Cleaning Mayhem

I’m so tired of cleaning.

I can’t believe that even after spending damn near every single night at the old house for the last week, plus working all day today, we’ve still got such a ridiculous amount of work left to do before we give the keys back to our landlord next Thursday.  I mean, we’ve made a lot of headway … I guess you just don’t realize how much work it takes to completely scour a place from top to bottom when it comes time to actually move your things and get out.

I honestly don’t think that we’ve ever put this much effort into cleaning someplace we’ve rented before, which is kind of ironic because it’s been the shortest time I’ve ever lived in one place since I moved to Florida! Seriously, the last house that we lived in for 3.5 years didn’t get as thorough of a cleaning … though maybe some of it is just perception because if memory serves, we pretty much cleaned out our last house in one crazy, 12-hour stretch, as opposed to doing a few hours each night over the course of a couple of weeks.

Still, I’m pretty sure that if you did the math, hours spent at this place would be vastly higher than any other place I’ve had to vacate during my time as a wandering tenant.

I suppose if anything, there’s solace in knowing that as a homeowner now, unless I buy a new house I shouldn’t ever have to go through all of this again!

…and if I do, it’s going to be a waterfront mansion, so in that case I ought to be rich enough to afford someone to come in and clean up after me, too…  😀

moving day #7 — THE LAST POST

Note to self: don’t put off cleaning until the last possible minute when moving out of next apartment!!!

Today was supposed to be the easy day – grab a few boxes from the kitchen, the rest of my clothes, then clean the place and be on my way – home in plenty of time to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, right? Wrong … dead wrong!

I had predicted that the entire job would take me about three hours. This figure is off by roughly 300% because I just got home an hour ago! I completely and utterly underestimated the cleaning aspect, I also completely underestimated the amount of stuff in my kitchen and had my car packed so full that things were falling on me during the trip up, and not to mention the fact that I didn’t even realize that the paint that I had brought wasn’t nearly light enough to “just blend in” with what was already on the walls for touch-up. I still did an ok job – having stayed until 2:00 AM, I think I can still safely say that – but I’m still banking on the hope that they’ll be gutting the place to “upgrade” it along with the rest of the units around mine and won’t care about some small scuffs on the walls, etc… At least I filled in my own nail holes… 😛

But back at Hunter’s Green in beautiful New Tampa, the refrigeratibles have been unloaded, the fish have been moved to a roomier location (and stand a good chance of dying, but I’ll talk about that tomorrow after I see if they’ve pulled through or not…), and now I’m just waiting for my pizza rolls to finish cooking so I can eat something and go to bed! Also, in case you’re wondering, work already knows that I’m not coming in until noon, so no freakish stunts there. The rest of the unpacking also needs to be done in the morning, unless I want to take all of this crap downtown with me, but we’ll see if I actually wake up on time first.

Anyways, I now no longer have residence at Baywater Drive, but I’m tired and dinner’s ready so I’ll reflect upon that at a later date. I’d say have yourselves a lovely evening, but everyone else is already asleep at this point… 😛

moving days #3 thru 6 — A MODEST SUMMARY

Tired isn’t the word to describe how I feel right now.

Drained, exasperated, p-double-o-p-e-d — pooped – those are more along the lines that I’m talking about at this point!

I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve driven from Town ‘n Country to New Tampa and back in the past three days, or how many hours of my time I wasted by leaving at the wrong time and getting stuck in traffic, but here – today – on a cool Saturday night, I can proudly say that I’m almost done. But enough of this crazy, paragraph-form – four days worth of updates entitles me to some bullet points, if I do say so myself…

moving day #2 — HOT, BUT PRODUCTIVE…

I would’ve liked to have gotten more done today, but I keep telling myself that this is my “vacation,” too, and suddenly I don’t feel as bad about sleeping considerably later than I probably should have! I got an absolutely horrible night’s sleep because my air conditioner decided to stop working and I didn’t notice until it was too late to call maintenance. They ended up blaming it on me because I don’t change the filter every month like they say, but I have to wonder if they’d have been a bit nicer about it if I was sticking around… 😛

So I really only made one trip today, but computers are now all hooked up and awaiting Internet access; also unloaded my DVDs and with the additional shelf, it became clear that I need to emphasize movies on my Christmas list this year! First trip tomorrow morning is going to be pretty much entirely pictures / posters / lithographs / etc…, which is kind of sad because my apartment is starting to look really bare and empty again…mind you, the feeling doesn’t quite equate to when I moved here two years ago. I think the hardest part is just that it really hits home the Leslie Factor for me – she’s gone now and it won’t be long before her things are packed away in a box in the closet. Every once in a while the scenario will play through my head where she finally comes to see me, but I don’t live here anymore and the scene ends with her just in shock … I tell myself that if she really wants to find me, she’s still got plenty of ways to do so, but it’s still hard. Anyways, this wasn’t supposed to be a sad post, so I just hope that she’s happy now…she deserves nothing less…

Tomorrow is another day, though – the mid-way point of my week off – and with no television to distract me the entire evening, hopefully I’ll be able to make some progress for a change! As a side note: I’m still not happy with NBC this week, but for storyline reasons this time — we haven’t seen one of those huge sea monsters in, like, a month-and-a-half in Surface and the “big developments” between Pam and Jim that they’ve been promo’ing all week ended up just being yet another awkward moment that made Jim look stupid in The Office. Can somebody please turn off the repeat button so we can get on with these shows???

Good Lord – listen to me, I sound like a housewife who’s cheesed about her soaps! And on that note, we cue the music…

moving day #1 — SUCCESS

By golly, am I tired!!!

…and it’s not just because I only got four hours of sleep last night, either…honest! (Yeah – as you would guess, I ended up watching another movie last night after The Punisher…this one called New Suit which was VERY good, but that’s another blog post…) The official pick-up of the keys went flawlessly and I got a solid two trips of hauling done by day’s end. I figure I’ve probably got about one more left tomorrow and my office will be done, which by the way is going to be absolutely sweet once again! If there’s one thing that I’m really excited about, it’s finally having a sizable area to do all of my creative stuff again – I really think it’s going to help me get back on track with what I want to do: comics, writing, websites – you name it…

I’m going to try to get pictures put together tomorrow or the next day – Internet is supposed to get setup on Wednesday, unless I get around to tapping the neighbors’ unprotected wi-fi in the meantime (only two points here now, whereas the new place has three – I can’t be blamed if these folks aren’t better prepared! :)). The only down point was coming to find this morning that the owners hadn’t really done much to clean up the place before I moved in, but it’s really nothing that can’t be worked through. Overall, it was a good day and I look forward to picking up where I left off again in the morning!

I don’t necessarily look forward to the exercising that I’ve also commited myself to doing tomorrow, but again, that’s another blog post… 😛

“One doesn’t know how much crap he’s truly accumulated until he’s piled it up in the centers of his living and dining rooms…”

What a pain in the ass, I tell ya! Today I cleaned out my office to make way for the construction that my apartment complex is starting Monday and as you can see below, it was a busy day! Hopefully that’ll end up being the worst because I think it was the most stuff crammed into the smallest possible space … which, of course, means that my new office is going to be freakin’ sweet. I think I’ll have room for the couches and everything – it should actually look like a real office is supposed to by the time I’m done! Server box will be tucked away in the closet so I don’t have to listen to the stupid fans day and night, which is going to be a nice change by itself because right now its sitting in the middle of my living room and at this point it seems to be noisier than ever. I’d still like to replace parts of it for Christmas, but we’ll have to see how bad the budget is first – I’ve got a feeling that I’m going to be swiping that card many a time over the next couple of weeks… 😉

So today was the big day … signed the paperwork and handed over a fat check this morning, and the condo is officially mine!

Well, technically its mine on November 7th after I write another check for the first month’s rent, but the worries of somebody else swiping it out from under me are now gone…which is good because when I showed up this morning, they said that they’d been getting calls like crazy because the owner put an ad in the paper yesterday! Oh well – too late – it’s mine now. 🙂

Two and a half weeks left until I can start moving stuff, but I’ll probably begin the tiddying up and whatnot this weekend so I’m not freaking out at the last minute. Other than the dent in the wall downstairs from when I first moved my TV in, I think I’m just going to have a bunch of nail holes to fill, which should be easy enough. The rest of the cleaning will almost have to wait until I’m not using each room anymore so I don’t have to redo it … I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a very antsy couple of weeks!

movin’ out…

Today was a great day!

I don’t want to speak too much about it until the last of the paperwork has been signed and its a absolutely for-sure deal, but it looks like I’m probably going to be moving to the other side of town this fall after all. This afternoon I went up and looked at a very nice condo right smack dab in the middle of the area that I’m looking at – within my price range – and would you believe that before the day was over, my application for the place was approved and everything?! I went into it all a bit nervous because there was already an application pending when I called on it, but apparently the years that I’ve spent getting my credit score to a state of awesomeness were actually worth it after all!

I’ll go ahead and post some pictures when everything has been finalized (hopefully next week), but let’s just say that despite to slight shortcomings, it’s a really nice place and I’ll be getting a great deal for it. It’s officially 1/3 bigger than the apartment that I’m currently living in and just about every room shows it, including a full-size 2nd bedroom for my office, a really nice kitchen with an island, and a balcony about twice as big that’s barbeque-approved and everything! Each of the three rooms with windows in the place all face a conservation area, so no looking at an ugly parking lot…EVER…which was kind of a big deal to me because I’m a little spoiled with the view that I have now. The only less than desirable traits are the bedroom closets (which are tiny at best) and the bathrooms (also microscopic compared to what I have now, yet plural this time which is kinda cool), but I figure for a rental that I’ll only occupy for the next year or so…that’s less than five miles from the new office…it’s something that I can deal with in the meantime!

So pretty much its all good to go, but Monday I have to deal with my complex here to let them know that I’m leaving and get the notice put in…which should be interesting because technically 60-days would’ve been nearly a month ago. Nonetheless this was discussed around that time and I’ve had some beefs with the management that they’re just now getting resolved after eight or ten months, so it’ll be interesting to see if she still keeps her end of the bargain and lets me out without penalty after admitting that she couldn’t get me a better renewal rate from corporate. We’ll see – worst to absolute worst, I end up paying some extra money, but hopefully it won’t come to that and about a month from now I’ll be settling into my new home!

See…things are finally starting to come back around after all – like I told everyone at work, it certainly might not all happen in one day, but I still truly believe that good things happen to those who deserve them … here’s to hoping that this new project will tide me over until the next overwhelming bout of good news hits my unsuspecting doorstep… 😉
